The winner of the May 2012 Giveaway is...

Candy C. from Lazy J Bar C Farm! This little nuthatch will be 'hanging out' in Arizona!

Thanks to all who entered and commented. I'm working on June's drawing!

Just a couple of gates

One of the more ornate designs you might find in the Texas countryside.
This one was located right across the street - a bit simpler...
but I thought the weather/wind vane mounted to the cross bar was rather unique.

Barred Owls

Barred owls perched pondside at dusk one day.

Light was fading fast, and I started trying other settings on the camera, including flash.

Have you had your dose of rust today?

A poor, sorry little barn sits in the distance. The shelter in the foreground, a shade run-in for a large herd of cattle, or perhaps cover for round bales of hay to be stored there. Either way, your rust-o-meter should be registering full, now.

Breaking bread together

Squirrel: "Bless this food which we are about to receive."

Duck: "Amen!"

Both: "Let's eat!"

The turtle maternity game

We get a lot of red-eared sliders climbing up the banks of the pond to lay their eggs in the shaded area of the yard. Baron, our black lab, often locates them and barks the alert until I go wrestle him away so they can continue with their maternity ward.

Yes, dear lady, I will give you some privacy...
as soon as I can wrangle this one back into the house.
Yes, you, Baron!
Dreaming of his next turtle encounter, I'm sure.

Butterfly echoes

A tiny Pearl Crescent butterfly perched on the sliding glass doors one day. I liked how the tempered glass reverberated its image.

Three deja vus and a cut-out for Friday's Fences

Three repeat subjects with emphasis on the fences - because I do so love to put a fence in front of it!
And I LOVE this fence!

And a fresh cut-out on a gate so you don't get bored with reruns. :)

Little house on the prairie?

I've always liked the looks of this tiny place. It just kind of sits out there, rather forgotten.

A pair of black-bellied whistling ducks

Hunkered down under the bird feeder tree - often alternating eating and watching.

And later on, finally at rest.
 Or maybe not.
