Barred Owls Without Flash

Most of the time, I have to use the flash to capture the barred owls emerging to hunt at dusk. One evening they showed up early enough for me to manage a few shots without flash.

They're just so dang cute!

Hunting on the yard.

My photography crew, Louise, BB and Thelma, watching me chasing owls from tree to tree (Baron was inside the house)

Light began to fade - as did focus, obviously.
One last shot using flash.

Plain Texas Barns

Plain as dirt.
Empty horse stable on a vacant property - plain and rather sad.
Plain made pretty by its surroundings.

Just Trees, Please

For some Sunday serenity, here are a few peaceful and quiet trees for your viewing pleasure.
This one is part of the grove that grows at the edge of our hay pasture.
I'm not sure what type it is.
This was taken back in late March when the bluebonnets were blooming.

This one's in the front pasture, too. A locust tree.
Love the old skeletons - this one found on one of my country drives.
Even though the lighting was all wrong for this photo, I liked this huge tree with its mass of limbs sprouting from the thick trunk base.

The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago.  The next best time is now.  ~Chinese Proverb

Another Round of Whistler Babies

The third set of baby black-bellied whistling duck photos. Thank goodness they were only here that one day or I'd have thousands of photos of them. :)

Love these fuzzy back-sides!

Mama says, "Run!"

Babies run!

Daddy's got the back of the train covered.

A big family.

Weekend Reflections and Green Day

The Great Blue Heron did catch a small fish.

And, yes, he swallowed it.

Gates abound near Run*A*Round II

A few more of the nearby neighbors' gates here in the 'hood.
Although very nice, says 'urban' to me rather than 'rural'.

Definitely more rural and rustic.

Yes, they have lots of goats.
