Same area, different days

These are from late March and early April.
I put these 'natural' barriers in place to deter the horses from crossing the pond (to get into the yard) as the water level gets low. It is a favorite perch for the whistling ducks, and the turtles like to sun on the little island, too.

This could go on and on, but I'll stop here.

One of My Favorite Trees

This tree is along a Farm-to-Market road on the way to another town I sometimes visit for Walmart. It's probably a locust or an old mesquite. I love it in any season. This was taken in mid-May when the field was covered in Golden Grounsel.

Whistlers on Wednesday 26

More of these cuties eating from the old birdbath turned platform seed feeder.
Love those 'pink eraser' feet.

And cute little speckled pantaloons.

There's always a few 'looky-loos' on the ground, wishing/waiting for their turn.
Look at that cute foot placed against the base of the feeder!

"Nanny-nanny-boo-boo! I'm up here and you're not!"

"And I'm cute, too!"

I think they're rather smug.

My First Ever Indigo Bunting

I was thrilled to spot this gent at the birdfeeder tree one day. I took a bazillion shots of him, so you'll be seeing/suffering through future posts featuring this gorgeous bird.
Male Indigo Bunting with a Savannah Sparrow behind him.

More May Wildflowers for Memorial Day

The Indian Blankets (Firewheels) grow across the hay field.
And run like a ribbon along the driveway.
And provide a burst of color if you stop to admire them.
A few Coneflowers are emerging.
In some places, they spill along the roadways.
The Prickly Pears are in bloom.

A few Pink Evening-Primrose are still hanging on.
So is the little beetle! :)

Western Horse-Nettle is coming in like crazy, now.
And Silver-leaf Nightshade, too. (The blooms are so similar, but the leaves are different.)
The Bee Balm is coming up.
And the Milkweeds are about to bloom.
This bloom's got a customer.
A Gray Hairstreak butterfly hangs underneath.
This Winecup does, too!
A very happy bee.
Once again, almost all of these shots (some blurry because of wind or lack of standing still) were taken while I walked along our driveway with my handy cell phone.

From our local Veteran's Memorial.
Bless the families that have made sacrifices for our freedom. We remember your heroes.
